Conservation Farming and Tree Planting.
The project Conservation farming and tree planting is emerging from actions to reduce soil degradation and enhance sustainable management of natural resources through conservation farming and agro-forestry in Nyimba district.
The lack of knowledge and organisations working within environmental issues make the district vulnerable to plenty of effects ? which lead to diverse climate change implications manifesting itself locally either by way of drought or flooding and to a large extent hot day time temperature which scotch young plants which are supposed to be future forests. However, notable areas of concern include the following:
1. Indiscriminate cutting down of trees for agriculture and timber
2. Poor Land husbandry
3. Late burning of forests and woodlands
4. Overgrazing
5. Charcoal burning
6. Indiscriminate use of water sources
7. Absence of environmental policies at community level
People in remote areas and most parts of Nyimba are not aware of policies which aim at proper management of Natural resources. Rules and regulations that are supposed to be followed are only known when one is found guilty of an offence, as ignorance is no defence.
Project goal or aim
The project goal is to reduce soil degradation and enhance sustainable management of natural resources through conservation farming and agro-forestry in Nyimba district in the Eastern province of Zambia
Project Objectives:
1. To contribute to afforestation of trees through effective and sustainable use of land and water
