Facilitating an effective response to environmental degradation
This is a 12 month project being implemented by OPAD in the Ching?ang?auka region and surrounding areas like Nansenga, Kasengo and Chikani in Mazabuka District of Southern Province approximately 60km from Lusaka on the Livingstone road. This project focuses reversing land degradation in the form of sand mining, deforestation and bad farming practices among 600 households.
The project?s goal is to strengthen the capacity of individual families and communities in Ching?ang?auka region to respond more effectively to land degradation mainly caused by sand mining, deforestation and bad land management practices. The following are the specific objectives:-
? Strengthened environmental community based structures and groups able to
to handle their own environmental issues
? Increased sustainable land management practices leading to improved food
diversity and security among 600 families.
?Increased numbers of alternative, environmentally friendly and successfully managed local enter prices for 100 households leading to reduced environmental degradation
