Together for Nature – bat conservation in anthropic habitats by reducing the human impacts
The Romanian Bat Protection Association in the partnership with the Agora Association and Transylvanian Carpathian Society - Satu Mare, would like to implement a project within 20 months which aim the conservation of bats in Romania with the involvement of local communities.
The 3 main goals of the project (1) determination of the impact of public lighting on foraging activity of bats; (2) measurements of the existent relationships between human land usage and different type of habitats used by bats; (3) public awareness concerning biodiversity conservation, energy efficiency and sustainable land management.
These goals will be achieved by the following actions: technical data collection in the field (covering 12 Romanian Counties, 50 transects in different habitats, application of a noval method of ultrasound recording and special program analyses on bats) and at the desk (literature data, and technical data collection in libraries, internet, available scientifically articles and books), organizing a workshop, organizing roundtable discussions with the local communities in two communities in the targeted area of the project, elaboration of concrete proposals concerning the importance of light pollutions to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, distribution of leaflets and contact with the mass media, facilitating children of the targeted local communities to prepare bat boxes and to replace these boxes, raising public aware in the local communities about the importance of energy efficiency and sustainable land use, and making recommendations what to do in order to achieve this.
