Reducing vulnerability to declining water supplies in Burevestnik rural community
Below is the list of activities to be implemented under the planned grant:
1. Meetings with the community members (site visits (field team visits)) in Burevestnik Village (school teachers), county government (administration staff); meetings with the farm and LLP management (at least 5 meetings).
2. Survey of the dykes with involvement of dyke design specialist: The survey will enable to assess the dyke conditions and produce the recommendations for restoration, reinforcement and proper operation as well as the recommendations for addressing erosion processes at water outlet facilities and their reinforcement using rough stone (materials remaining from destroyed buildings), seeding grasses and planting trees.
3. Consultation with the land degradation specialists and agricultural technologies to obtain the recommendations for using modern agricultural technologies at the community?s fields reducing the land degradation as well as the recommendations for water outlets reinforcement including by seeding grasses and planting trees.
4. Establishment of a consulting center in Karamendy Village on the basis of Ak Tyrna RC with a branch in Burevestnik Village in order to ensure communications facilities, office equipment, train the facilitators, arrange the meetings, perform VRA and process the VRA results.
5. Vulnerability reduction assessment (VRA)
6. Development of the project proposal based on the consultants? recommendations, community proposals and the Crane Conservation Project experts? recommendations.
2. The vulnerability reduction assessment will be performed in the manner as described below:
The expert of Siberian Crane Conservation Project will establish a group of facilitators composed of Ak Tyrna RC members and local NGO volunteers (3-4 persons). A demonstrational VRA training session will be organized for these facilitators to meet one of the community groups using H-form. The meetings with various community groups will be organized with assistance of the local administration and related heads of farms to determine the average VRA scores for several public groups, e.g. the administration staff, teachers and school staff, heads of farms and LLP?s, employees.
3. An expert of the Siberian Crane Project will be involved in writing the project proposal and project planning activities. Said expert will be involved as a project consultant to develop the thematic and financial reporting.
