KWF BAREFOOT WOMEN SOLAR PROJECT
KWF BAREFOOT WOMEN SOLAR PROJECT aims to improve on the livelihood of the rural families of Nagoke, Miganja and Migana through solar electrification. This will be achieved through solar electrification of at least 100 rural homes by: implementing the ?barefoot? approach of demystifying and decentralising solar technology down to the poor rural communities; forming Village Committees to implement the entire solar lighting project through women Barefoot Solar Engineers (BSEs); organising village meetings to collectively identify semi-literate women from the non-electrified villages and send them for 6 months training to India; training the selected women to fabricate; install and maintain the solar lighting systems in their village; organising the community to sustain the project through collecting monthly users? contribution and remunerating barefoot solar engineers (BSEs); and putting the fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance of solar technology in the management, supervision, control and ownership of rural communities
