Adaptation of farming practices to increasing temperatures and aridity in Akmola Oblast
Planning Phase
- The project is planning a workshop for the initiative group represented by all related parties (partners, local and district authorities, inhabitants of Arnasai village) in order to discuss in detail all the project aspects, identify the priority activities and responsible parties, plan the project implementation strategy in view of any peculiarities connected with the set of problems of LC adaptation to the climate change.
- Vulnerability reduction assessment.
- Setting the goals for each specific objective.
- Involvement of experts capable of elaborating the best approaches to identifying the strategy in view of all indicators.
- Co-financing will be provided by the proposer, Kaisar LLP, SIMMIT, Vyacheslavskaya High School and SGP/GEF grant funds.
Project aim:
Demonstration of new agricultural techniques, which allow decreasing the risks from water availability decrease, and getting benefits from winter climatic conditions changing.
Project tasks:
- Demonstrate agricultural techniques that allow decreasing locals? dependence on unstable water resources
- Educate and skill up locals in right and effective usage of water resources
- Increase community members? capacity in implementation of adaptation measures to counter the potential risks of climate change
Project results:
- Reduced risks of farmers and agricultural producers, enabling them to actively introduce planting of winter crops in rotation, especially in conditions of warming climate in the area Arshalynsky zone, able to make the most of the winter-spring precipitation, stabilizing work on farms, providing additional jobs for the summer period;
- The introduction of watering nozzles usage in the time of irrigation organization process on the area of 1170 hectares in the LTD "Qaisar", able to organize high-quality cost-effective irrigation, reducing the possibility of flushing the soils;
- The introduction of drip irrigation in the adjoining farms of local community members;
- Expansion of winter crops in the farming and agricultural formations of Arshalynsky area
