Increasing the efficiency of the marginal land by transforming it into organically cultivated land or forest in Mairouba - Keserwan area
I. BACKGROUNG AND OBJECTIVES

The project concerns the region of Mayrouba (Keserouan- Mount Lebanon). This village is well known by the sand extraction. Many farmers are leaving the agriculture by selling their lands to contractors which are transforming these lands into sand extraction premises which turned to be more benefiting on the short run.

This issue starts to be very popular in Mayrouba and this will lead to soil degradation, increasing soil erosion in addition to the pollution of the environment and decreasing the cultivated area.

The idea of the project is to transform some of these lands into organically cultivated orchards.
Due to the current rehabilitation works performed by the Lady of Triumph Monastery in the region, the water availability increased comparing to the planted surface. For that, the Monastery offered to the project the land to be planted with walnut trees under organic agriculture.
Under this project, The Lady of Triumph will put under the disposition of the project virgin land not planted, near the organic farm owned by the monastery.

The goal of the project is to plant the cadastres number 2026, 2027, 2028, 2031, 2032, 2036, 2037 with walnut trees that will be treated as organic agriculture and will be getting an organic farming certification.

The College Central under this project will launch a Drawing competition for the School students, a jury will be representing all the partners of this project and scholarship will be delivered to 3 painters.

The project aimed to reduce the negative effects of the above mentioned issues by increasing the planted area in Mayrouba.
