I. First progress report (March 9, 2009)
Activities undertaken:
1.Building capacity of target population through meetings and study tours
2. Launching rehabilitation activities: reforestation, surveying location & building humid retaining weirs
Results of activities:
1. Evinced increased community on expressed self-confidence in articulate causes of environment problems and participatory solution framework
2. An area of two out of targeted 275 ha being grown with 3,000 seedlings of native species with about 2,100 thriving ( due to severe current draught in the country)
3. Nine humid retaining-weirs completed in construction and seemingly producing favourable result

Experience ,lessons learnt, problems and issues:
1. Community ?based educational process naturally produced balances and consistencies in consumption pattern of provisions from
forest ecosystems. The process appeared to be a pride of community elders prompting them to transfer the knowledge to younger generation and wider audiences, especially network members.
2. Protection of forest ecosystem by leaving to naturally rehabilitate & regenerate might be more appropriated than having human interference.

Project expense:
The project reported the expense of THB: 129,500 out of the first disbursement of THB: 162,228.73.

II. Second progress report (October 23, 2009)
Activities undertaken:
1.Proceeding with building capacity of target population on conservation and sufficiency philosophy and revival of traditional knowledge
2. Keeping on launching rehabilitation activities: setting up two seedling banks , and reforesting degraded area

Results of activities:
1. Total 80 families actively participating in practicing self-sufficiency philosophy with 10 families using their own resources
2. The Tambol Administrative Organization adopting the approach and incorporating into its development agenda
3. There being over 7,000 seedlings of nearly 20 native species in the banks about of which 4,000 and 2,000 seeds had been planted in 10-acre watershed area

Project communication:

Experience ,lessons learnt, problems and issues:
The project referred to conflict with some entrepreneurial groups as the main obstruction in sustainable consumption of natural resources and effective local conservation activities ,even though there had been sufficient support from public sectors in locality. Other important affecting factor involved less well planned public development activities.

Project expense:
The project reported the accumulated expense of THB: 311,693 out of the sum of two disbursements of THB: 328,642.21.

III. Monitoring Visit by NC, NSC and UN Volunteer (December 11,2009):
Findings and Observation:
At Ban (village) Hai Ha, one of the six targeted village, the visiting team spent about two hours with project members discussing, sharing and witnessing some immediate project results. Major progress of activities and results seemed to be re-vegetation of watershed area by over 4,000 seedlings of native species, demonstration of practices to reduce threats on forest ecosystems , such as building a house with earth, using fire-woods in a sustainable way, and a public official agreement for community to have their right in land conflict use through a recent cabinet resolution ?Community Land Title Deed? .

1. Evinced increased community participation in managing natural resources, in term of both use and protection in a sustainable way- 50 families more requesting to participate in the project course
2. Emergence of 30 model families practicing sufficiency economy as a centre for sharing experience
3. Nearly 7,000 trees of 20 native species being returned to the community forest
4. One seed bank being established
5. One set of dissemination ( documents and CD) being displayed in the provincial event ? communities and resources base? ? seeming to get attention of various organization
6. Initiated cooperate actions to address environmental issues at the basin-wide

The project reported: "Due to limit experience of the coordinator, dissemination of project results was rated as ?partially successful?.

Plans and Activities for Sustainability:
The project had planned to continue an effort to influence local administrative organizations so that their 3-5 year master plans would change their focus, less on infrastructure, more on conservation. Moreover, coordinating effort would be launched to ensure upscale of conservation among 9 tambols in Sukhothai, Phrae and Uttaradit. The coordination would also be launched to forge wider community conservation network in lower Northern Region.

Experience , Lessons Learnt , Problems and Issues:
The project listed the followings:
1. Changing attitudes of target population and community leaders was always difficult and took time. Project leaders had to be patient and built personal trust among the population prior to collective activities.
2. Any emerging plan should be community-focus.
