Establishment and well managed environment information centre and participatory video community network in East Java

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
1. East Java community will have outlet to voice their opinion through audiovisual media or other means of application based on their own capacity and targeted audiences
2. Producing audiovisual media by the communities that voicing aspiration and their point of view regarding their method to face environmental related problems by applying creative and innovative method and involving local wisdom
3. Creating community-based video network (later can be referred as Participatory Video) consist of Participatory Video practitioners in Java and wider network to exchange knowledge and to distribute Participatory Video products. This network is expected to link with wider Participatory Video Network i.e. Southeast Asia level.
4. Documenting lesson learned from partners in GEF SGP Indonesia annual report book as part of knowledge management
5. Maintaining network and internet website for www.videokomunitas.com as one of the exchange learning website and pool of resources for participatory video.


EXPECTED OUTPUT:
1. Three films produced by communities and it based on principles that already learned and agreed together during the training and it will be distributed based on agreement of the purpose of video making.
2. One book that document community opinions and learning of GEF SGP Indonesia partners, completed with significant photograph regarding selected projects and analysis column of selected topic.
3. Existing location where surrounding community and participatory video practitioners can obtain services, renting audiovisual production equipments, and exchange learning.
4. One website that is accessible for wider community and easy for upload and streaming.

ACTIVITIES TO BE CONDUCTED:
1. Collecting data, analysis, review, policies, and writings on ecological problems and progress in East Java and also wider area so that it will be accessible for public
2. Applying rights based documentation and participatory principles as agreed during the Participatory Video Training by applying Human Rights Based Approaches held in Pandaan and Sidoarjo on 13-22 July 2008.
3. Creating website and maintaining content of the website by using stories and production of Participatory Video network.
4. Having screening in public places as tools for policy dialogue and gathering information.
5. Collecting stories from GEF SGP Indonesia partners and other inspiring community groups that can act as positive precedent in facing ecological threats by applying sustainable, innovative, and collective method. These stories will be compiled in a book.

PROJECT PARTICIPANTS AND/OR BENEFICIARIES:
- Direct beneficiaries: participatory video practitioners network in East Java and South East Asia: 50 persons
- Indirect beneficiaries: website visitor: 1500 hits/6 months
- GEF SGP Indonesia partners: 170 institutions
- Donor Institution, NGO, and institution related with participatory media watcher and natural resources management: 700 institutions, community groups, research institutions, library, congress, etc.
