Ikalahan Headwater Enhancement Project
The project intends to expand the second growth forest into the grasslands to improve their ground cover, enhance biodiversity and improve their waste retention and carbon sequestration capacity.
It is envisioned that the people?s organizations will have an informal federation in the future to facilitate their cooperative development.
Objectives:
? To protect and develop the Ikalahan-Kalanguyan Ancestral Domain as a viable watershed, wildlife sanctuary and a sustainable source of livelihood for the dwellers
? To develop and implement environment-friendly alternative livelihood sources for the dwellers
Target Outputs:
? Enhanced capacity of watersheds in the area for holding water, and controlling erosions
? 100 families will be initially benefited
? Income from organic vegetable farm will help sustain the operation or the social services like the clinic, and high school
? Improved income from the participants of the economic niches and the downstream families who benefit from the irrigation water coming from the Ancestral Domain
? Reduce flooding of downstream agricultural lands
