Sarteneja Tour Guide Association wishes to apply for a grant to assist in the development of their COMPACT proposal towards a framework for tourism as an alternative livelihood for the reef fishermen of Sarteneja village, Corozal District, as per the submitted concept paper. The project will focus on developing the capacity and infrastructure of the organization to assist its members and Sarteneja in moving forwards towards a future in tourism, providing an alternative to fishing, and reducing pressure on the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site.

The planning grant is required to allow STGA to employ a consultant to assist them in writing the grant proposal, and to hold meetings to consult with the tour guides of Sarteneja to seek their input into the project, and ensure full engagement in the project implementation. Members of the STGA will also need to attend several meetings with BTB, BTIA, and other tourism organizations in developing the budget and support for the proposal, and would request assistance with the travel expenses associated with these meetings.
