Project activities:
1. Conducting a study to determine the levels of pollution and to identify the needs and objectives
2- Removing the oil stains on the mangrove trees through a substance called Mycelex
3. Implementing a training program on Decontamination of Mangroves for a number of youth from civil society organizations
3. Designing a broad media plan to raise awareness as to methods of protecting decontaminated areas and ensuring that the pollution does not recur

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
- 75 students attended a training workshop on the clean up of solid wastes in protected areas
- 300 students attended seminars aimed at teaching the value of mangroves as part of the coastal ecosystem and the importance of preserving them in a responsible manner
- Research was conducted on removal of oil stains from the mangrove and the trials with Mycelex succeeded in removing the pollution
Notable Community Participation
- Community members, including students, attended a seminar led by environmental experts. Participants were educated on the importance of preserving mangrove ecosystems
- Students participated in a clean up of solid wastes from a defined mangrove enclosure
