Benefits of the Kitchen Improvement Programme Observed by he Community:
Under the above activity, the project improved 27 kitchens within the project area. It had been no possibility in measuring the benefits quantitatively; however people?s perceptions, especially of the house wives were obtained after discussion carried out with them. Every one of them expressed their satisfaction on the improved kitchen and its benefits were stated. According to their observations, the improved kitchen provides a much comfortable environment with less smoke accumulation due to the ventilation and chimneys provided by the project. The properly placed and located kitchen objects and other items provide the house wife the easy access with less movement. The time saving and firewood saving are other benefits observed in an improved kitchen. The improved kitchen is less moist and clean and is also devoid of pests and other intruders. The children spend more time with mother in an improved kitchen and it provides a place for them to study. It also promotes the habit of cleanliness and the use of hot water.
Benefits of the ?Anagi? Improved Stove:
The ?Anagi? Improved Cook Stoves provided by the project has become very much beneficial for the users. They save cooking time by about 40% and saves firewood nearly 50%. They are convenient to use without causing much stress as the traditional stoves and its two-pot nature has enable them to keep a kettle of water when one stove is not in use, thus cultivating the habit of using hot water which is hygienic. It also emits less smoke and is much safer than the traditional stove where indoor pollution much more less.
