Reclamation of ravines through endogenous technology & ex-situ conservation of local biodiversity in Piprai Panchayat of Morena District in Madhya Pradesh
Projects aims at reclamation of ravines through endogenous technology and ex-situ conservation of local biodiversity in Piprai Panchayat of Morena District in Madhya Pradesh. This project would benefit the overall population of the villages of Piprai and Piprai ka pura. The project uses endogenous measures both engineering and vegetative for achievement of land reclamation. Centre to the reclamation action is the endemic species, Gugal, which is threatened with local and global extinction. Therefore, it contributes towards conservation of biodiversity. Also, the mixed plantation model being adopted in the project uses a mix of local bio diverse species and maximizes sequestration of atmospheric carbon contributing towards the global action for mitigating climate change.
The technology measures are based on centuries old wisdom of the communities and enhance ownership. The project puts forward a novel approach for addressing a large scale issue of ravines.
