RMI: Re-establishment, Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Un Man Pandanus Variety for the Livelihood of the Jeirok Village Women
The project will be the first to attempt in re-establishing the un man pandanus that was once a native in Jeirok and Laura. The un man no longer exists in Jeirok so it must be transplanted from other atolls where it remains abundant in Mejit and Namdrik. The un man is used for crafting and/or weaving. With this project there will be trainings of basic craft making and weaving skills. By re-establishing the un man pandanus variety in Jeirok, the project will provide a new resource for women of Jeirok to create their own crafts and will provide income earning opportunities that currently do not exist.
