Galelhon water supply and women home gardens development in Galelhon Village, Socotra
This project aims at supporting 20 families (150 inhabitants), to supply domestic water and develop a 200m2 home garden for each family. The village of Galelhon is located along the wadi of Qalancia. It is close to the new road to Qalancia. 20 families are living temporarly, as they are Bedouin. Their aim is to settle there and to develop an agriculture activity, which will start with the home gardening. Now the village has a school, and a health centre. The project is organized in two steps :
The supply of water for the families and the home gardens, from one well :
­- The digging of a well (10m deep, water table 6m deep end of dry seson)
­- The installation of a solar pump
­- The construction of a water network (water tank of 20 m2, 2000m of buried pipes with connections to reach all the houses)
The water will be used both for domestic purposes and animals needs (200 liters/family/day),­ irrigation of the (20 x 200m2) home gardens (2 liters/m2/day)
- Irrigation of local fodder trees hedges gardens (20x300m2) 1liter/m2/day
The project will include fencing and transport for organic matter; Training and demonstrations will be also performed for vegetables, and it will be also emphasis on the benefits of a local fast growing fodder trees production on agriculture and animal husbandry.

Notable Community Participation
Community women participated in two separate meeting, the first when preparing project concept and the 2nd when project activities and budgeting. Coomuinty will participate in the implementation of project activities and in-kind co-financing (32%).
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Four workshops days for both men and women are planned to adress environmental awareness and sustainability of project impact.
