Community Based Natural Resources Conservation for livelihood Development
The project is aiming of Improved Management Natural Resource by Community in order to Develop Livelihood Standard. The project is covering 3 villages (Sung1, Phnom Rey, and Kandal), 2 communes (Tataok and Sung) of Samlot district, Battambang province. The main project activities include 1) establishment of community forestry management committee in each village, 2) provide capacity building for community forestry management committees, 3) conduct enrichment tree planting, and 4) formulate saving group among members and food processing.
Expected results:
1. Three forest communities will be request to FA for preserving 1,000 ha in 3 villages with populated 2,341 people (506 families). 70% of population is participating in natural resource management.
2. 1,000 ha of forest community based in three villages will have clarified mechanism and good process which involved by indigenous and Khmer community.
3. Law and policy of management will be created by community participation. 60% of illegally forest cutting and fire will be reduced in three villages
4. Internal and external development companies unable taking community land without the permission from the community.
5. The indigenous and Khmer people from other provinces have right to participate in administration of the Natural Resources or Forest Management and the community forestry area.
6. Three Forest Community Committees have 15 members and three group of Agro-Forestry Committee has 9 members will be led in natural resource management. 70% of community members will be aware the importance of Agro-forestry system.
7. 1,000 Leaflets and Posters with forest-related have been receiving from CFI will share to three communities, commune, district level.
8. The villagers who are members of the Forest Community of the three villages will exploit more byproducts of the forest than before to support their daily life, and the sustainability of Environment will be ensured.
9. 8 times of quarterly meeting and 22 times of monthly meeting of Community Forest Committee will be participated by CFC members at VTH office in Samlot district.
10. 40 % of women in the village will participate in the training course on community organization and mobilization.
11. The three Forest Communities will become the model community, and especially ethnic minority cultural center, enable for learning and sharing experience with relevant partners, students and institutions.
12. The indigenous community has rights to take cares their culture/tradition and living condition.
13. 60% of indigenous and Khmer women have knowledge and improving their capacity to manage natural resources and livelihood.
14. The Ethnic and Khmer Community have built sufficient knowledge and experience in the plantation of the Agro-forestry system at the end of project.
15. 70% of community member have agro-forestry plantation supplementary to family livelihood and 30% of income from selling agro-forestry will be accounting as community income.
16. The Saving Group has cash for creating business and for community revolving fund.
17. The community will identify the price of community goods and plan to identify type of goods for export. 70% of community member have skill on food processing and re-product.
18. The market price for internal and external market will be clearly defined. Community economic will be increased from 20% to 30%.
Overall goal of the project:
Improve Management of the Natural Resources by the Community in order to develop the Living Standard of 506 families in three villages of Samlot district, Battambang province.
Specific of objective:
? Prepare administration mechanism at village level through the creation of the Forest Community to preserve the Natural Resources in 03 villages of 02 communes in Samlot district, on land area of 1,000 hectares, situated in the forest where we planned to create the Community.
? Intensify the study and research on the reforestation system (growing forest trees and forest by-product crops); spread awareness about the creation of the group purchasing the by-products of the forest, the administration of the Natural Resources, to the Ethnic Minority Community. Provide education and spread awareness of the rights of the Ethnic Minorities to outsider through different means.
? Build a good cooperation and networking between relevant institutions and communities for forestry community management.
? Improve the living conditions and the solidarity within the community of the three villages through the formation of the Community Forestry Committee, the Self-help Groups/Saving Group and prepare the reforestation system on 02 hectares of land in each of the three villages.
