This is a capacity building and sustainable livelihoods project in the North East, Francistown and Central Regions of Botswana. The intention is to enhance the capacity of the members of the Milidzani Cooperative in four main component areas, being infrastructure development, training and education, programme development for biodiversity monitoring. The project will address 24 members in all from 15 villages in the three regions.

All members of the cooperative are currently involved in the propagation of plants in their differnt localities. They are also involved in the ex-situ conservation of biodiversity, and the sale of plants they produce, as an attempt to provide a livelihood for themselves. However, this project becomes important because members, their advisors from Government Departments and NGOs have recognised that there is need for a more focused approach to their ex-situ conservation (deliberately indigenous species, for example), better quality of plant material (through training and better nursery structures) and a coordinated intervention in the areas of community education and biodiversity monitoring in their differnt localities.
