Project Characteristics and Results
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
For the duration of next year (2009) Conservation International will be funding the putting together BY the community of proper environmental management plans FOR the community. This is a new approach that will encourage the communities to take responsibility in looking for after their environment and will follow the Stewardship model which has been sucessfully implemented in the Northern Cape. DEAT has never before applied mind to their legislated responsibility to empower locaql communities as they have not had the capacity and this model is planned to assist them in doing so.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
IP and CI have personally visited the communities and heard their needs. SGP is viewed as a partner and not a funder, have been taken on a site visit of the area and their input to the design has been respected and accommodated. DEAT has been privy to the development process. The environmental management plan to be done is going to see all members of the community taking part in looking after own natural environment (participatory)
