Development of Safe Water Facilities
This project was fully funded by UNDP TRAC fund. The Development of Safe Water Facilities Project aims to address the problems of lack of household water use either for life and livelihood. To achieve these purpose three main activities were designed including constructing water pipeline system to get water from upstream distributing to two hundred within 3 villages in Chambok commune, digging five water ponds for 800 families in five villages in Prsat Sombo district, Kg.Thom Province, and providing 300 small scale water filters for household families for Chambok and Cham Sangker commune, Kg. Speu Province. The management committee and policies for using and maintaining the water supply system will be established and applied.

Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
The GEF SGP project staff will continue to provide follow up support to UNDP TRAC SGP and ensure it sustainability and create more impact in term of environment as well livelihood of communities.
Notable Community Participation
The constructed water pipeline system will provide both economic and social benefits to the participating communities. In Chambok at least 200 families in 3 villages will have easy access to a good water source for their daily consumption, home gardening, livestock raising and tourist services.
Similarly around 800 households of Prasat Sambor will be able to collect water from the 5 ponds to complement their existing water sources which are currently insufficient to sustain all families. Every participating household will save money and time by not having to buy water from supplier or to travel to water sources far away. The more water they get, the more productive they can become by planting vegetables and trees near their house or raising livestock. In addition, they could also have more opportunities to do other jobs, for example women have more time for taking care of their children. The water supply from the waterfall in Chambok, at a very low cost, provides huge benefits for the eco-tourism services such as food preparation, watering the botanical garden, toilets, and home stays. With the very low cost of water supply, the Chambok community based eco-tourism members, particularly woman self help group will gain more profits from food delivery.
When all target beneficiaries consume water from the recommended water filter, they will reduce their costs for medical treatment for water born diseases, which is often a reason that people go into debt.
