Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
613 families will have affordable clean water by the end of the project so that it will protect the health and livelihood of the community.
Pagodas and local communities need to play an important role in improving water management and cooperate closely with ABE in this process. They hey will be responsible to convene meetings with the relevant stakeholders in the community, such as commune and village chiefs, monks, nuns, achars, and other villagers. They need be willing to spend time to discuss and analyse water issues together to identify problems and solutions. ABE team will to disseminate and follow up on the water policy with the villagers around the pagoda.
In addition, communities and pagodas should be responsible to organize fundraising activities to improve the water infrastructure from their communities. Pagodas need to be willing to prioritise some of the pagoda funds for these important improvements. The also could contribute labour and financial resources to maintain and protect any installations.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
In order to use water in a long run, ponds management committees will be formed so that they take responsibility to lead local people to take care their water sources. Pagodas and management committees have an important role to play in instructing the community on safe and proper water management in order to protect the health and livelihood of the community, they can also conduct education and the participatory development of local water policy. Through this component, it is possible to improve the water resources of the community so that they are used more wisely and safely. In this sense, it will be possible to prevent water-borne illnesses such as diarrhoea, dengue and typhoid within their community.
