Micro-Hydropower Generation and Watershed Protection in Mambucano
Micro-Hydropower Generation and Watershed Protection in Mambucano
The area is the first Agrarian Reform Community in Negros, but still after so many years a very minimal development has taken place in the community. The project involves the development of a small-micro-hydropower system for household lighting, battery charging, and watershed protection/conservation. In addition, the project is expected to facilitate the development of other projects such as corn milling/grinding.

The project is a small hydropower Pelton turbine with three nozzles which depending on the flow of the source can be operated at different power. The source is an existing irrigation canal which at the site will be partially diverted to the powerhouse. There is no problem in the availability of the water, in fact the intake in the mountains is being limited. However the canal needs on some places repair and there are even some portions where a new canal has to be constructed. The turbine is coupled to a Synchronous Generator of 15 kVA.
