Enhancing Community-Based Watershed Management
The Project involves the watershed protection and conservation and the promotion of environment friendly technology for water resource utilization. Community-based hydraulic ram pumped shall be installed for the delivery of water for drinking and irrigation.The project is expected to enhance the production of vegetables and other crops by upland farmers, thereby contributing to the protection of the community’s 30-hectare watershed area9part of Ilog- Hilabangan watershed.Aside from biodiversity conservation, the project shall contribute to the following: Headwaters will be protected by the communities, initial to cover 30 hectares; Minimize if not totally eliminate slash and burn farming and charcoal making activities b the residents in the identified water heads. Ease the burden of women or household member in their daily routine activities (laundry and water fetching for the drinking and household use); Encourage the Establishment of Demo-farm for vegetable and other cash crops highlighting the concept of sustainable agriculture and appropriate technology;In the long run, the nearby local communities can be encouraged to participate in protecting the watershed area since water resource conservation and introduction of renewable energy technology shall be the focal point of the project intervention.
