Retrieval and Production of Traditional Rice Varieties from Puerto Princesa Subterranean River Natural Park and Adjacent Barangays
The project aims to undertake community-based activities for the systematic and organized collection, retrieval, seed dispersal and propagation of traditional rice varieties within the IP communities in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River Natural park (PPSRNP). Activities, among others, shall include the establishment of community seed banks, documentation of indigenous knowledge, systems and practices on upland rice culture and technology.The project shall follow the model scheme of the SGP-funded project (in ILOILO) where retrieval, collection and propagation shall be done in the same site to assure that no depletion of the TRVs will occur.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
A systematic and organized collection, retrieval, seed dispersal and propagation of TRV, implemented and conducted by the PO partners within the IP communities in the PPSRNP is the major concern of these project. BRDFI and the IP partner will work together with technical support from the Provincial and City Department of Agriculture and PAMB. A system and procedure for a community base TRV seed storage and seed banking will be established and documented. Simultaneously, a systematic collection and demostration of indigenous knowledge, systems and practices (IKSPs) of IP's traditional rice culture and technology will be documented.
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
At the end of the project, the IPs were able to utilize the stored seeds either through lending or by direct purchases. A seed dispersal protocol were prepared and approved by the general membership before final approval of the Bageral.
