The project aims to undertake a planning workshop for the NSC in view of the recent developments both at the local and global levels. This activity, which was decided by the NSC shall, among others, review the country programme strategy and formulate strategic directions for 2004 - 2006. The last planning workshop of the NSC was held last October 2001 in Tagaytay City where the outputs included a revised Country Programme Strategy that served as guide for SGP from 2002 to the present.

Capacity - Building Component
Inputs/Topics for the workshop shall include the following: Review of the CPS document vis-a-vis actual outputs/accomplishments; Review and discussion of documents (local and global) pertinent to the programme:a. Third Independent Evaluation of GEF/SGP Report b.NCs' Global Workshop Report (May 2003); c. Guidelines from UNDP-HQ CPMT on POPS, land degradation;d. Proceedings of the SGP+10 National Conference of Grantees and Partners (December 2002); Formulation of strategic directions, objectives and thrusts for the Philippine Programme for year 2004-2006;· Topics for discussion: new operational program areas (land degradation, POPS), upscaling projects (up to US$150,000.00), SGP as a corporate program, partnering with the private sector, SGP and governance, ex-post evaluation, sustainability, knowledge management, Millenium Development Goals, and partnership with other development concerns such as health and poverty alleviation. To review the Country Programme Strategy and develop an updated version for the next two (2) years (2004-2006); And lastly, to formulate strategic directions for the Philippine Programme taking into consideration the developments both at the local, regional and global levels
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The venue decided by the NSC for the planning workshop shall be at the SRDF Training Center in Marahan, Marilog District, Davao City where a SGP-funded project shall also be visited and interaction maybe done with the grantees/ partners:Project for visit: "Community- Managed Water Resource Utilization and Biodiversity Protection for MHP (PHI/02/01) This project involved the development and installation of a community-owned and community-managed micro-hydro power system for household lighting and operation of small agro-processing facilities; and watershed protection and conservation;O The MHP has initially provided lighting to 65 households (including 24 Matigsalog families) and the training center of SRDF where skills training (on food processing/cottage industries, organic farming) and literacy classes are conducted;
