Malasila River Watershed Development and Biodiversity Conservation
The project aims to undertake community-based activiies for the protection and conservation of the Malasila River ecosystem which is the primary source of irrigation of Makilala, M'lang and Tulunan municipalities in Cotabato. The project sites are located within the buffer zone of Mt. Apo National Park.

In addition, this project shall build on and translate the gains of the Conservation of Priority Protected Areas (CPPAP) p[roject into real community activities within the buffer zone, thereby responds to the SGP relating with big GEF funded project.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Activities include biodiversity conservation activities (such as resource inventory of flora and fauna, biodiversity monitoring system, establishment of nurseries using endemic tree species), watershed protection, community strengthening, and IEC. During the course of the project implementation, they will put up billboards in strategic areas in the four barangays that will constantly remind the communities of the do's and don'ts in the area.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Direct project partners are upland farmers and indigenous peoples called Bagobos. Significant number of indigenous peoples from the indigenous peoples from the four villages joined the Bantay Gubat. The presence of indigenous people in the Bantay Gubat groups will facilitate the harnessing of indigenous knowledge systems particularly in the areas of conservation and biodiversity monitoring.
