Project of "Zero Waste” Community Development Network Building and Knowledge Production
Project of "Zero Waste” Community Development Network Building and Knowledge Production
The project does not focus on a specific location.

Main Problems:
1. Although "zero-waste community" practices by NGOs or from communities or schools are prosperous, the overall development of those organizations varies greatly and they are flourishing and still in the ascendant in terms of quantity. Although the prospects are promising, the volume remains relatively small and not sufficient to form an industry-wide ecological effect;
2. Different organizational forms and different types of "zero-waste community" practices are still working separately, lacking effective sharing and co-learning of experiences;
3. At the moment, certain "zero-waste communities" initiatives in China that have already formed a model need to produce knowledge at different stages. Although Wo Qi Foundation has made helpful efforts in this area, there is still much room for growth and output;
4. At this stage in "zero-waste communities" practice and research, effective industry promotion, and policy advocacy have not yet been achieved, so the practice and action of "zero-waste community" still only receive funding from a single source, with insufficient leveraging of government and commercial funds;
5. China's construction of "zero-waste communities" has some excellent examples of action, but these instances and international exchanges are insufficient; the country's "zero-waste community" narratives are still confined within China without enough international circulation.

Solutions and Activities:
The project will use action research and project node management as its methodologies and knowledge production as its primary goal to serve the zero-waste communities demonstration project in order to build networks, empowerment, project model management, communication, and advocacy for the demonstration project, with the purpose to conduct international communication and exchange activities for zero-waste communities.

Anticipated results/ outcomes
1. Complete scan research for basic conditions and needs of the "zero-waste communities" demonstration projects, and produce a baseline research report.
2. Create a network communication platform for demonstration projects aimed at "zero-waste communities", and design online and in-person workshops and activities of case study sharing among those projects.
3. Complete the knowledge production and case writing for each "zero-waste communities" demonstration project.
4. Commence the cross-sector promotion, policy advocacy, and international communication of the "zero-waste communities" demonstration.
