Empowering deaf communities’ access to information by strengthening their capacities of knowledge to manage Covid 19 pandemic impacts, livelihoods security and environmental protection initiatives in Naivasha region.
The deaf people classified as persons living with disabilities (PWD), who use sign language as the only means of communication, have rights to seek freedom of access to information in social and economic and cultural developments forums but they lack accessibilities to information from mass media through public speakers on impact of COVID -19 pandemic; thus making the deaf people difficult in getting accurate information: this problem needs to change attitude toward these people by providing them special status like COVID-19 response sensitization workshop training for the deaf people on impact of covid-19 pandemic and other topics: i.e. social distancing, sanitizers and use PPE for most high risks group when in employment. The deaf participants will understand the causes and symptom of covid-19 infections related in human bodies.
Naivasha Deaf Community Based Organization has decided to outline plans to give deaf youths/adults a chance to express their willingness to learn the meaning of COV/D-19 infection, not only this topic but also need to include Livelihoods recovery and environments conservation programs that will address their social and climate change problems in deaf communities. It is hoped that covid-19 response information through sensitization workshop seminar will increase awareness among the local communities especially the deaf people from grassroots area with a view to reduce death from infections of covid-19 pandemic this year.
