Enabling Clean Energy Access in Underserved Communities through the Creation of Women-Owned Green Enterprises
The project, proposed to be funded by the Tides Foundation via the Google Impact Challenge and the GEF-SGP fund will be used to kick start businesses for 100 selected women entrepreneurs who will distribute (through a sales model) clean energy solutions including solar lamps and clean cook stoves to their communities. Baseline surveys will be conducted project locations to ascertain viability to Solar Sister Model, in terms of energy need, to track impact of project expected result areas. Project activities to be covered by each fund source is detailed in the proposal.

Objective 1: Provide improved clean energy access in identified underserved communities
Objective 2: Advance sustainable livelihoods for 100 women through their business growth in successful green enterprises.
Objective 3: Drive shift in risk enhanced environmental behaviours (Use of kerosene, candles, firewood and charcoal) in project communities and its environs.
Objective 4: Scale up successful experiences through data evaluation and project Impact tracking and Organizational knowledge Management.

Project activities include:
1. Project Launch and team Orientation
2. Training of Trainers and project staff (Business Development Associates and data collators)
3. Baseline Surveys via Community Entrance and Identification of community stakeholder

4. Recruit/Engage and On-board Solar Sister Entrepreneurs with their “business in a bag” starter and trainings.
5. Clean energy product and distribution to the selected 100 women entrepreneurs
6. Entrepreneurs engagement meeting
7. Formation of Village Savings structure
8. Product fair
9. Provide ongoing training and mentoring monthly “Sisterhood Meetings
10. Monitoring and Evaluation Activities. (data collection, (baseline and impact surveys)) and knowledge management
