Green Initiative to Adapt to Climate Change for 20 Schools in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria
The project aims at facilitating greening of schools thereby mitigating adverse effects of climate change. This will be accomplished through (1) planting of about 500 trees seedlings (2) training of 500 students and 50 teachers in 10 schools the practical skills of raising, planting and caring for tree seedlings to maturity, and (2) awareness creation on benefits of trees in mitigating climate impacts. Nature Clubs and school farms will be established in all the selected schools as a way of sustaining the project.

Project Characteristics and Results
Inovative Financial Mechanisms
Handbook will be designed for the students to use in the Nature Clubs and School Farms. Findings of the projects will be packaged for presentation in conferences, and written into a scientific article for publishing in conference proceedings and reputable journals. At the end of planting season for the first year, a workshop on lessons learnt from the project will be organized. This will bring together all the administrations of the selected schools. Also, principal officers from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Forestry and Environment will be invited to the workshop. This workshop will be aimed at initiating the culture of tree planting in our schools and recommend incorporating environmental education in school curriculumz.
Gender Focus
In training of the teachers and students, this will be targeted at achieving 50% equal participation. However, in situation where there is very few female gender, all the available female will be given higher priority in selection criteria
