Preserving the Natural Environment and Contributing to the island of Nevis Re-forestation programme
This project seeks to address the following:
Water Harvesting- With increased and prolonged drought conditions experienced during the year, our Club wishes to refit our existing meeting house to serve as part water harvesting and greenhouse for planting.
Loss of trees / natural shade ? With the refitting of our meeting house we can utilize our greenhouse / gardening space to nurture, harvest and grow coconuts, almonds and sea grape for reintroduction at beaches usually frequented by residents and visitors such as Herbert Beach, St. James and Paradise, St. Thomas.
Inadequate water storage in homes and community- through teaching and mentoring the Club will look at educating the boys, their families and the broader community on the need for adequate and cost effective water storage from water harvesting.
Using education, entertainment, mentorship and other support services to teach and create environmental awareness and responsible stewardship of natural resources to young men.
Retrofit existing building for water harvesting and storage by installing guttering and water tanks within the first six months of the project
Establish Shade house within first six months of project.
Establish Club garden and nursery over a two month period.
Expand established music programme as capacity development activity during the project.
