Establishment of system for mercury lamps utilization
The main objective of the project is to solve the problem of centralized collecting and utilization mechanism for the hazardous waste in the local households, especially waste of the first danger class, like mercury-vapor lamps. The project aim is to establish an efficient and safe infrastructure for mercury-vapor lamps collection, transportation and utilization in Slovyansk town, as well as conducting a wide awareness raising campaign for the local population to promote safe utilization of mercury lamps and the use of energy efficient lightening. A series of measures aimed at collecting, removing from the population and further safe disposal at a specialized enterprise of mercury lamps was carried out, as well as raising public awareness about the importance of responsible handling of hazardous waste.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
A culture of dealing with hazardous waste, namely, with used mercury lamps, was established: 15 special containers for the collection of mercury lamps for household usage were manufactured. These containers have an individual exclusive order and were installed in legally permissible and pre-agreed, at the level of the dialogue group, places. In addition, 10000 paper individual containers for the collection of mercury lamps were produced. 550 boxes were made for safe collection, cargo works, temporary storage and transportation of lamps to a specialized licensed company for utilization.
