Reducing the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in agriculture in the rural area of eastern governorate of Khan Younis
The project main aim is to contribute to enhancing farmers’ knowledge and awareness about the risks of excessive use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and biological and natural control methods, while providing support to help farmers apply organic farming knowledge.
Main activities:
1-Form a steering committee for the project from the concerned authorities.
2-Conduct introductory awareness workshop to introduce the project to the local community and relevant governmental and non-governmental institutions and to present the environmental and health problems of chemical pesticides
3-Prepare of the terms of reference, Tender for the organic pesticides and fertilizers.
4-Distribute the organic pesticides and fertilizers to 250 farmers.
5-Develop criteria to select 250 farmers in the area of Khan Younis to benefit from the project.
6- Calculate how much Pesticides will be reduced as a result of this project.
7- Conduct 10 farmer’s to farmer’s site visits.
8- Conduct capacity building programme: 25 training workshop *4 hours for 250 farmers to develop their capacity and knowledge on organic farming and the risk of excessive use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and its impact on health and environment.
9- Prepare and distribute guide manual “500 copies” on the health and environmental impact of pesticides, about non-chemical alternative to pest control by clarifying the organic, natural and biological control of pest.
10- Conduct final workshop to present the final project results and recommendations and evaluate the project.
