Community Mobilisation and Trust registration; empowering communities in protection of biodiversity.
The project aims to conserve biodiversity by empowering and involving communities in the sustainable utilization and management of natural resources in their areas through community based organisation.
The specific objectives are: 1) to register the community trust as a registered legal entity with Registrar of Deed, 2) to capacitate the communities on Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) concept,3) to capacitate board of trustees on governance 4) To promote the image of the trust.
To achieve the above objectives the community are mobilised through Kgotla meetings by the technical advisory committee in order to appreciate and gain basic understanding of the CBNRM concept. After which the elected interim committee assist in facilitating the deed of trust development and registration of trust. There is also a need to conduct training workshops so that the board of trustees are empowered to govern the trust and handle the various responsibilities that come with management of natural resources. The community will also benefit from the revenue generated through CBNRM projects which will also create job opportunities for the people.
