Solar Electrification in Jabal Al-Milh, Luhayyah District, Hodiedah
The project targeting 38 homes in Jabal Al-Milh village, Luhayyah District. The use of solar energy for rural electrification is growing in Yemen after communities’ awareness of the efficacy of renewable energy and its impact on families livelihood. The communities main occupations are agriculture and fisheries. Most homes have no access to electricity and only few had small generators that operates with conventional fuel and run only for several hours in the evening. The fact of the scarcity and black market with fuel derived people towards renewable energy.
The project will benefit e8 households including 38 families and 295inhabitants (146 M & 149F). The project will assist local community in the two villages to acquire solar systems for home electrification including solar modules 150 WP and dry batteries of 100AH. The project will save the environment the emission of 58.24 tons/year of CO2. Community are aware of the importance of project sustainability hence a revolving fund mechanism will be established through a monthly subscription of YER1,000/system/month. Environmental awareness will be raised among all beneficiaries towards environmental sustainability, CO2 reduction, climate change mitigation and wider environment.
The project will conduct the following activities:
- Equipping 38 homes in Jabal Al-Milh with solar systems.
- Raise Environment awareness among 150 men and women.
- Ensure project sustainability.

A pamphlet will be produces by the project to illustrate the best uses of the solar system in order to prolong it life span.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Acquiring a source of electricity in such hot and humid region will not only provide light but also provide environmental conditioning. Solar system will safe each household the amount of US$ 1187/family /year.
