Solar Electrification in Dyr Abker Village, Al-Qanawes District, Hodiedah Governorate
The project targeting 137 homes in Dyr Abker village,Al-Qanawes District Hodiedah Governorate. The use of solar energy for rural electrification is growing in Yemen after communities’ awareness of the efficacy of renewable energy and its impact on families livelihood. The communities main occupations are agriculture and fisheries. Most homes have no access to electricity and only few had small generators that operates with conventional fuel and run only for several hours in the evning. The lack of readly avialble fuel and it expensive cost encourage people towards renewable energy.
The project will benefit 130 household, including 130 families and 583 inhabitants (394 M & 335F). The project will assist local community to acquire solar systems for home electrification including solar modules 150 WP and dry batteries of 100AH. The project will save the environment the emission of 54 tons/year of CO2. Community are aware of the importance of project sustainability hence a revolving fund mechanism will be established through a monthly subscription of YER1,000/system/month. Environmental awareness will be raised among all beneficiaries towards environmental sustainability, CO2 reduction, climate change mitigation and wider environment.
The project will conduct the following activities:
- Equipping 137 homes in Dyr Abker village with solar systems.
- Raise Environment awareness among 260 men and women.
- Ensure project sustainability.
