Community Based Capacity Building on Climate Change Mitigation and Improved Livelihoods.
Okumorotet community is in Obubra Local Government Area in Cross River State of Nigeria with a population of 4,850 people. The local populations are mostly farmers, forest gatherers and petty traders and are faced with fragmentation of habitats, loss of biodiversity, destruction of watersheds and accompanying climate change, drought, soil infertility, poor farm productivity, water stress, malnutrition, diseases, poverty, mortality, low community development due to farming, logging, unsustainable harvesting of non-timber forest products, mining and collection of firewood which has increased poverty of the poor local populations. This project is to reduce deforestation, emission of carbon, climate change and improve livelihoods of this forest dependent community. The goal of this project is: To build resilience of target community particularly the women and youths on climate change mitigation and improve livelihoods.
