Conservation and Rehabilitation of Community Green Space - Old New River School Grounds in Nevis
Conservation and Rehabilitation of Community Green Space - Old New River School Grounds in Nevis
Free grazing animals have destroyed the grass covering that protected the soil from being washed away and have transported seeds from various weeds and plants unto the community’s only green space. Additionally, a sharply sloping terrain has resulted in extensive soil erosion that needs to be remedied.
Heavy rains have resulted in the washing away of top soil which have exposed stones and gravel.
• Fence entire area to eliminate free access especially by animals within the first 3 months of the project.
• To install an appropriate irrigation system and to grass 100% of the grounds.
• To minimize the amount of water running onto the field by at least 75%
• Too reduce soil erosion by about 50% in one year
• To recreate a green space in the community that will enhance the aesthetics of the community
