Solar Energy for Home Electrification in Joa’h, Hadibu district, Socotra
Joa’h village is located in the eastern part of Socotra on the old road between Hadibu and Nujid plain south of Socotra. It can be reach through Rokeeb eastern road. The community main occupation is herding livestock with limited palm trees growing. It has no electricity supply a part of small generatories.
Current limited electricity is provided from a number of fuel run generators. Community are convinced that operating fuel-run generators is not economically and environmentally viable hence are interested in using renewable energy for domestic lighting.
The project will benefit 23 household, including 23 families and (111 M & 98F) 209 inhabitants. The project will assist local community in Joa’h to acquire solar systems for home electrification. The project will save the environment 20 tons of CO2 per year. Community are aware of the importance of project sustainability hence a revolving fund mechanism will be established through a monthly contribution of YER 1,000/system/month. Environmental awareness will be raised among community towards environmental sustainability, CO2 reduction, climate change mitigation and wider environment.
