Solar energy for products drying in households of Zaporizhya region
Solar energy for products drying in households of Zaporizhya region
This project aims to create a model for the sustainable use of renewable energy sources via demonstration and popularization of fruits, herbs and forest products multifunctional solar dryers (SDs) in rural area of Zaporizhya region. The project has two equally important components. The environmental component includes the demonstration of renewable energy sources use as an alternative practice that contributes to the reduction of CO emissions through application of best European practices. This innovative practice will accelerate the use of energy saving techniques to mitigate climate change. The second component is socio-economic. The popularization and use of multifunctional SDs in rural area will enable to use renewable energy sources on household level, thus delivering economic and environmental benefits. Finally, this project will contribute to the empowerment of local women and youth. Due to its economic viability, this project has strong replication potential.
The community members will be actively involved throughout the different stages of the project implementation and participatory monitoring.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Limited awareness on contemporary energy saving mechanisms on household and industrial level inherited from Soviet past can be addressed by learning and demonstration that are parts of this project. This initiative has enough driving mechanisms to ensure dissemination and sustainability, and in wider aspect it has enough mechanisms to grow into sound commercial projects. Since this project is composed of two equally important parts – learning and experiencing, therefore raising public awareness and responsiveness on the issue is a major part of it.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project will enhance capacities of local communities of Zaporizhya region through demonstration of renewable energy use practices and market oriented product development mechanisms.
Tonnes of CO2 decreased or avoided by energy efficient and renewable energy technologies or applying environmentally sustainable transport practices introduced by SGP Project 21
Increase in household income by increased income or reduced costs due to SGP project 103
Number of households who have benefited* from SGP project 16
