GEF SGP knowledge fair project
The GEF SGP is launching the first Ukrainian Knowledge Fair project. The Project will help to respond more effectively to local grantees network demands for capacity building and institutional strengthening and for the promotion of evidenced-based practices and for the creation of mechanisms for sharing information and knowledge to promote learning, improve organizational practices and achieve successful outcomes. The goal of the project is to enable SGP grantees and other NGO stakeholders to network, share and showcase best practices, innovative technologies and lessons learned developed by the civil society to promote the replication and scaling up of results for greater policy influence and transformational change; as well as to promote sustainability and the mobilization of additional resources for community-based sustainable development initiatives.
The activities will include: - Hosting a Knowledge Fair in the National Forum “Environment for Ukraine 2014” in Kyiv, including the organization of information sessions to enable grantees to share experiences, lessons, successes and challenges associated with project implementation for establishing linkages and networking. It is expected to involve not less than 100 participants; - An exposition of at least 20 SGP project(s) where participants can learn best practices and see results on the ground will be organized; - The art for environment campaign and grantees master classes will take place in the Protected area “National Botanical Garden” of the Taras Shevchenko National University with more than 50 participants involved; - 5 issues of the NGOs newspaper “Deveopment and Environment” will be supported.
Specifically the project will:
1. Exchange experience between NGOs/CBOs working to address global environment issues in order to facilitate exchange of knowledge and replication of best practices;
2. Improve awareness and understanding about the GEF SGP in Ukraine and its strategy and results;
3. Promote and strengthen partnerships among all concerned stakeholders, such as, NGOs/CBOs, international funding agencies, government & local authorities, the business community, and local communities.
The Knowledge Fair will focus on the work of GEF SGP and will achieve it’s four articulated objectives:
1. Exchange experiences of GEF SGP among NGO’s/CBO’s and other stakeholders working to address global environment issues to facilitate exchange of knowledge and replication of best practices;
2. Improve awareness and understanding about the GEF SGP country programmes missions, strategies and results and to raise awareness of community-based perspectives on environmental protection;
3. Promote knowledge sharing and transfer and its value within the context of knowledge management among all GEF SGP programs, other NGO’s/CB0’s and stakeholders and encourage partnerships among all concerned stakeholders, such as NGO’s/CBO’s, international funding agencies, government and local authorizes, the business community and local communities;
4. Encourage and create a public policy agenda to support GEF SGP environmental programming and identify community-based responses to support a public policy agenda.
