Mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into marine ecosystems & fisheries management in Kenya
The project will contribute to improved coastal and mangrove forest governance and management focused on establishment of Community Forest Associations and Participatory Forest Management.
The goal of the project is:
To increase local community, and coastal and marine ecosystem resilience capacity through enhanced community governance and co-management structures, restoration and sustainable resource use
The objectives of the project are:
Contribute to improved coastal, and mangrove forest governance and management focusing on establishment of community forest association (CFA) and participatory forest management plan (PFMP) in the project area.
Contribute to ecological restoration of the marine ecosystem in the project area with focus on mangrove forest rehabilitation.
To enhance the capacity of coastal women in the project area BMU’s have improved opportunities to efficient cost-effective energy and improved income from small scale fishing value-chain.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
A project activity will be to carryout on-site community capacity knowledge and skills training on mangrove ecology and rehabilitation methods and techniques in the villages of Bodo, Mwazaro and Funzi Island
Another will be to facilitate monitoring of any mangrove harvesting and impact in the project area.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
A two (2) day multi-stakeholder sensitization workshop on forest and fisheries governance and management and the need for a PFMP and CFA in the area will be conducted.
