The project aimed to implement the Aarhus Convention, namely: ease access to environmental information and involve the community to decision-making in environmental areas. Therefore, the Aarhus Centre and the Youth Ecological Centre in Luhansk were established in a special venue within the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Luhansk region. The project provided renovation works and all needed equipment.
In order to ensure free access to environmental information and raise public awareness on environmental challenges, the NGO has set up an ecological resource, targeted at different audiences.
Also, the activists held a strong information campaign to promote the Aarhus Convention, which consisted of seven public hearings, ten ecological lessons, four presentations, five round table discussions and three workshops for schoolchildren. A total of 1900 people participated in these events. The team also conducted ten ecological lessons for children with a special focus on alternative energy sources and main concepts of the Aarhus Convention.
The project supplied local schools, universities and libraries with the guidelines "Creating a Nature Reserve Funds of Lugansk Region" and "Plants of the Regional List of Species Requiring Protection in Lugansk Region". To highlight the main features and results of the project, the newspaper “Ecoden” (“Ecoday”) and promotional video were created. More than 3700 people participated in project activities.
The project also achieved its goals in conservation of nature: 66 species of animals and 195 of plants were protected due to project implementation and 90 000 ha of Luhansk region nature reserves were improved.
