"From Ridge To Reef" : The totality of Mangrove Forest Management Strategy in Selat Nasik Island, as efforts to Integrating and sustaining the Ecosystems Management of the Islands and Its Life Resources
GOAL :
Building a sustainable management of mangrove forests, raising the welfare of the Selat Nasik society.

OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Updating the data about the mangrove forest, Mapping and Management Plan Area.
Indicators :
1. Provide the information about the history of the mangrove forest, local knowleddge and various data related to utilization patterns and the development of mangrove forests in Selat Nasik.
2. Availability of maps of potential areas of mangrove and other support for the preparation of management plans.
3. The existence of joint planning for sustaining the mangrove forest management and the community-based on the rehabilitation, protection and utilization.
Activities :
1. Data Collection and Mapping Area
This activity will be an important need to provide the latest data available at the work site area. Updating the data is done either on the mangrove ecosystem and surrounding ecosystems such as coral reefs, fish, small surrounding islands, tropical forests, flora and fauna, as well as socio-economic conditions, cultural society.
Methods: Data collection and mapping is done either through interviews, diving, observations, etc..
2. Manage Forests Mangrove Workshop
The workshop will be handled to build strategies with communities and governments in managing mangrove forests. The workshop will be conducted with the involvement of various parties representing each village, sub-district and district and provincial. At the workshop each people will present a variety of information related to the existing mangrove forest territory (conditions, potential, utilization patterns, threats and attempts were ever made)
Methods: The workshop will be conducted with the sharing and discussion among community groups as well as the facilitation of planning a follow-up to the PRA.

Objective 2 : Mangrove Forest Management Implementation.
Indicators :
1. Establishment the integrated mangrove conservation area equipped with supporting facilities such as Observation Homes, Track Mangrove, Mangrove Tourist Information Center and the mouse deer and squirrel wildlife sanctuary.
2. Protection of mangrove forests and other potential supporters through the village rules, regents regulations and community forestry
3. The existence of the utilization and protection of mangrove forests as a learning and research center for coastal ecosystems .
4. The existence of business tourism as an alternative income.
5. The existence of a group doing a crab aquaculture in mangrove areas
6. Crab sustainable marketing presence.
7. The existence of the villages ecotourism network of Petaling –Selat Nasik-and Suak Gual
8. Signing establishment of Marine Protected Areas and Small Islands Islands (KKP3K) by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, with the design and concept was also recognized and acknowledged by the community
Activities :
1. Build the Mangrove Forest Tourism To Provide Employment Opportunities for People
The Mangrove forest serve and provide the breeding grounds for marine life and could be maintained and utilized as a tourism destination and education center.
Stages of activities to be carried out: Planning at the village level, Conduct a study of potential mangrove forest,
Determination of the location of natural laboratory, Procurement of means of support (Development of tracking, Construction of mangrove study center), Marine ecotourism management training (Training of tour guides, Management of tourism businesses, Development and marketing package, Souvenirs), Spatial attraction (Monitoring and evaluation, Assistance) Methods: This will be conducted through the planning process with the learning of other areas that have already done this activity.
2. Build the Mouse Deer and Squirrel Sanctuary
Squirrels existence Nasik Strait which is endemic wildlife and mouse deer in Selat Nasik is very rare and threatened. Therefore the wildlife conservation efforts should be done.
Methods: Population research and habitat, The existence of village regulations that encourage the protection of habitat and its animal, Sanctuary which is integrated development in the conservation area)
3. Crab Aquaculture Business Development As An Alternative To Increase Revenue Business Community
Crab fishing in the mangrove forest area is one strategy to reduce the destruction of mangrove forests, since cultivation is quite promising with a good marketing opportunity.
Stages of activities to be carried out include: Village meetings, Formation crab aquaculture management group, Training patterns crab fishing area of mangrove forest, Making crab aquaculture facilities, seedlings, Maintenance, Marketing) Methods: This activity will involve women to manage the crab fishing and will accompany by experts.
4. JED Development (VILLAGES ECOTOURISM NETWORK)
Speaking of the development of mangrove tourist destination, then it must be prepared not only associated with mangroves, but all the tourist carrying capacity so that the circuit can work well, such as bike rental services, car, guide, home stay, where to eat, as well as supporting tourist spot such as tropical forest exploration, tourism pepper gardens, and so on. It is very important to do so, to reach the better level of tourist satisfaction and the length of stay of tourist will longer. Its means the community that should be prepared not only the mangrove communities, but also people in the up land. This is one of the synergies that we called "From Ridge to Reef".
One of the weak points in order to maintain and actively involve the community in managing their tourism potencies are how to build a sustainable management of the local community so they can play as the main actor. And the answer is by build the ECOTOURISM NETWORK VILLAGE, in which is included the management, technical operations, to juridical recognition. In addition to JED's design could also construct the transfer of knowledge, training, case study, as well as joint promotion with existing JED as JED is currently in Bali. Therefore the important built JED is not only in Petaling as mangrove center, but also involves JED Selat Nasik and Suak Gual. Methods: Establishment of Petaling JED-Selat Nasik-and Suak Gual & Management & Operational Management Training JED with JED involving friends of Bali.
5. Area protection through the regulation which accommodating the Villager Aspirations
Protection area with the formal regulation is needed to sustain the management plan.
Methods: Village meetings, Establishment of village regulations drafting team, Preparation of regulatory material, Preparation of village regulations, Judicial review-Verification-Socialization of village regulations.
6. Encourage the establishment of Marine Protected Areas and Small Islands (KKP3K) in Selat Nasik Islands and Cape of Kelayang from the Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
Marine Protected Areas and Small Islands (KKP3K) is one strategy to prevent activities that could damage the marine and coastal such as from marine mining, in addition to manage the environmental sustainability. In 2011 the Bupati Belitung has signed the MoU of KKP3K and the follow up should be processed to the minister of marine affair, but the process is still hampered by the determination of interests. Therefore, the determination of the efforts by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries continue to be pursued, and is targeted by 2014 can be specified.
Methods: Perform multiple visits to policymakers to provide an understanding of the urgency, Invite the parties to conduct field visits on the site to see the social, economic and environmental conditions and impacts that may occur if the condition of marine spatial planning is not set immediately, Perform a variety of discussions, advocacy and mobilizing various programs.
Objective 3 : Build Mangrove Education Media.
Indicators :
1. The existence of documentary that can be used as a learning media.
2. Community involvement in filmmaking.
3. Any use of films by various parties through environmental education to schools.
Activities :
1. Provision of a quarter hectare of land as a place to separate organic and inorganic waste.
2. Training for 4 people to manage plastic waste into a flowerpot.
3. Composting by 4 members of Kanasa group.

Objective 4 : Periodic Monitoring and Evaluation.
Indicators :
1. The existence of the involved stakeholders in the implementation of the program
2. Narrative reports submitted periodically (3 times)
Activities :
1. Monitoring and Evaluation of stakeholders through visits and meetings with the public in Selat Nasik
This activity is intended other than to evaluate also to synergize with the various programs of the various stakeholders. Methods: A visit to the mangrove site and meetings with community
2. Preparation of Project Report
Periodic reports submitted in accordance with the terms agreed time. However, submission of progress can also be made according to the needs. Methods: Presented in narrative and completed by photos and the measured data.

EXPECTED OUTPUT :
1. Mangrove forests in Petaling and its ecosystems will be a center of education, information, research, excursions, and a proper shelter for flora and fauna.
2. Communities and local organizations are aware of and take part in the conservation efforts.
3. The existence of the sea, small islands ecosystems and the buffer ecosystem protected in the law.in the form of Marine Protected Areas and Small Islands (KKP3K) and in the District and Provincial Spatial Plan.
4. The public acquire the management rights to the mangrove forest and ecosystem buffer in the form of Community Forest.
5. Selat nasik island developed into a tourist destination-based conservation and education.

Direct : The 120 active member of Komunitas Sahabat Alam with a ratio of 80 men and 40 women, Belitung Government , Selat Nasik District Government , Local community organizations in Selat Nasik such as : Karang Taruna Selat Nasik (the Youth of selat nasik organization members of 125 people, Fishermen Association Petaling village numbered 73 people and groups Reef Watcher (Supervisory Coral) Petaling village which totaled 15 people
Indirect : Lembaga Layanan Pariwisata Belitung (Belitung Tourism Board) which consists of 42 members, Adiwiata school program who are under the guidance of the Ministry of Environment, with the member 12 schools
