Collaborative Community Village Tapos In Preserving the Area Buffer Mist Mountain National Park Salak
Community-based Conservation of buffer zone Of Halimun Salak Mountain National Park through the development of edu -tourism and early childhood education in Tapos Kampong, Sukaharja Village, Cijeruk District, Bogor Regency.

Objective 1 : Increased public awareness of biodiversity and its conservation.
Indicators :
1. At least 20 people (Men and Women of farmer groups) discuss the potential of natural resources in the village
2. At least 10 early childhood join environmental education
3. At least three early childhood teachers are trained and understand the techniques of teaching environment for early childhood
4. Environmental education modules for early childhood
5. The tools / environment themed game for early childhood education center (PAUD)
Activities :
1. Kampong workshop on natural resource potential in Tapos Kampong
Kampong workshop needs to be done to review natural resources and environmental conditions in Tapos Kampong. Workshops will be conducted in Tapos Kampong by inviting representatives of the kampong, both men and women to be able to participate and support the activities that will be carried out together in their kampong. In this kampong workshop, facilitators and speakers will be invited, whether from NGOs, the National Park, and local government officials (district, sub district / village).
Workshops will be conducted around the first of May 2013 in the village hall of Tapos kampong. The group of about 20 people comprising of 10 men and 10 women. This workshop will also be attended by the village chief and other village officials.
To ensure the sustainability of this activity, workshops’ results will be distributed to all workshop participants.
2. Environmental education for early childhood (early childhood education)
In year 2010 an early childhood education center was already established in Sukaharja village by the name of PAUD Telapak, located in Tapos Kampong. The establishment of the PAUD was initiated and supported by Telapak and has been registered in Bogor District Education Office. Up to now the Center has graduated approximately 90 children from Sukaharja village. Teaching techniques and games for early childhood, including the games to give understanding of their environment around the village need to be delivered. Therefore, hopefully in the future, students can understand the environment around them in a simple way.
Environmental education activities for early childhood will be sustainable in the implementation of PAUD Telapak. Teaching and learning process will be done by 3 female teachers from Kampong Tapos during the project. To sustain this activity, PAUD continues to pursue this learning process to be done continuously.
3. Training of teachers for early childhood
PAUD Telapak currently has 3 female teachers, all are from Tapos Kampong. The three teachers are graduated from package B, thus should get more training in environment teaching techniques for early childhood. Up to now those 3 young teachers is still in high spirit to teach in early childhood education center in their village.
Training of early childhood teacher will be conducted in June 2013 through study visit. Those three teachers will visit Garut to study early childhood education with the Association of Indonesian PAUD (Himpaudi), Garut branch. The head of Himpaudi Garut Branch is a member of Telapak, who also initiated the establishment of early childhood education center in Tapos Kampong. To ensure the sustainability, the Head of Himpaudi Garut in a certain time will also visit and monitor the development of teaching and learning activities in Tapos Kampong.
4. Production of environment module for early childhood
To facilitate teachers and facilitators in providing information or teaching environmental science, structured and complete modules are required. It is also necessary in Telapak early childhood education center in Tapos Kampong. It is expected that after the environmental module is being produced, the teachers or facilitators have a good plan in providing environmental education subject.
Production of environmental module for early childhood will be conducted in June-July 2013 by environmental practitioner and teacher of PAUD, Tapos Kampong. The environmental module will cover themes such as forests, mountains, national parks, flora and fauna as well as rivers, adapting to the conditions of Tapos Kampong. To ensure the sustainability of this activity, the module will be printed in limited edition and will be applied in the teaching and learning activities.
5. Procurement of models/ games for PAUD
Up to this time models or games for children in PAUD Telapak is still very minimal. Lacking of attention from the local government makes the procurement of games for PAUD in Tapos Kampong is not going well. Through game or models in teaching techniques is very much needed by PAUD teachers.
Procurement of models/ games for early childhood education will be conducted in June-July 2013. Models are intended to develop students' creative thinking, through counting game, collate and literacy. To ensure the sustainability, the teacher will be responsible for the equipment that has been given.

Objective 2 : Rehabilitation/Reforestation of degraded land in the village and in the area around river banks.
Indicators :
1. A thousand of local tree seedlings consisting of forest plants; tree and puspa (Schima wallichii), fruit crops; rambutan, avocado, nutmeg, durian, and jackfruit as well as bamboo plants
2. At least 1 location is used as demonstration plot for nursery
3. People/farmers group plant a thousand local trees comprising banyan tree, puspa, rambutan, avocado, nutmeg, durian, jackfruit, and bamboo in critical areas around the river.
Activities :
1. Nursery of local trees and bamboo with communities
Majority of the people in Tapos Village are farmers who work on the land around the village. Some arable land is also located in the area of Mt. Halimun Salak National Park. Community efforts that had been growing various hard woods in their lands are appreciated by the National Park. Even the HSM NP makes Tapos Village as one of pilot villages in an effort to support the conservation of the national park. Agroforestry methods that have been performed by the community of Tapos Village should continue to be supported so that arable land is more profitable for the people and conservation areas is well maintained. In addition to planting local trees, several locations in Tapos Kampong had been planted by bamboo to keep ground-water catchment.
Provision of local trees and bamboo is handled by youth groups and farmer groups of Tapos Kampong in June-August 2013. Local tree seedlings that will be collected and planted are consisted of West Java native trees, fruit trees and bamboo. Seeds’ provision will be conducted in June-August 2013. To ensure the continuity of these activities, seedlings will be maintained and taken care of in a nursery.
2. Setting up demonstration plot of nursery
To perform seeding or preparation of local plant seedlings, nursery demplots must be set up. Hopefully, the location of the demplots could accommodate 1,000 seeds. Nursery plot needed to temporary accommodate nursery seedlings that are not planted in the planting site yet. Nursery plot will be managed and maintained by the youth and farmers' groups that already existed in Tapos Kampong.
The setting up for nursery demonstation plot will be conducted in June-November 2013. Location of nursery beds will be placed in the land belongs to members of farmer group in Tapos Kampong. To ensure the sustainability of these activities, several people will be organized to be in charge for maintaining and keeping the seeds.
3. Planting trees on degraded land
HSM NP has an important role in the provision of environmental services for the community in West Java and in the wider region, such as: Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi and Sukabumi. The existence of the forest acts as a buffer in the conservation of biological systems in West Java. This is also a major watershed in the upstream of West Java, especially Cisadane, Cidurian, and Ciujung watershed.
The increasing number of residential area, villas and critical lands now is currently having an impact on some villages in the surrounding area of HSM NP. Reduced water catchment area resulted in trouble experienced by several families in the region to get access to clean water and drinking water, especially in the dry season. Therefore rehabilitation of degraded lands to restore its function as water catchment and infiltration in the buffer zone of HSM NP is necessary.
Planting trees on degraded land will be carried out in December 2013. To ensure sustainability of the activity, seedlings will be monitored regularly until the trees can grow well.

Objective 3 : Identify potential for tourism and natural resources in Tapos Kampong.
Indicators :
1. Document of tourism and resources potential in Tapos Kampong.
2. At least 5 people are capable of doing participatory village mapping.
3. Map of Tapos Kampong and its tourism potential.
4. Tapos promotional material as Edu Tourism Kampong in form of Leaflets, Posters and Videos.
Activities :
1. Kampong workshops to explore the potential of edu tourism and natural resource and make the promotion concept in Tapos Kampong
Kampong workshops aims to map the potential of edu tourism and to build promotional concept of edu tourism in Tapos Kampong. At this workshop group of farmers which once established is expected to be re-formed and women's groups of Tapos kampong are formed to design the creation of organic crops gardens. For Tapos youth, tour guides for edu tourism and trekking guides as well as birding for Javan hawk could be formed. In the process of this workshop, facilitator will be invited to guide and moderate the process so that the objectives of the workshop can be achieved.
This workshop will be conducted in September 2013. The group of about 20 people comprising of 10 men and 10 women. The workshop will also be attended by eco-tourism and business tourism practitioners including travel agents. To ensure the sustainability of this activity, workshop results will be distributed to all workshop participants.
2. Participatory mapping training
To improve the knowledge of farmers' groups and youth groups in technical matter of mapping kampong area and its potential, participatory village mapping training is required. In this training the representatives of farmers' groups and youth representatives will be trained in the techniques of mapping the region, the use of GPS and to input data or digital data processing after the mapping of the field. Training activities will be conducted approximately one week.
Training in participatory mapping process will be accompanied by facilitator who is experienced in mapping and digital processing after data retrieval from the field.
Mapping training will be conducted in June 2013. The training participants were 10 young people from Tapos Kampong. To ensure the sustainability of activities, mapping of Tapos Kampong will be carried out by training’s participant.
3. Participatory mapping and monitoring of Javan hawk in Tapos Kampong
After representatives of farmers' groups and of youth learn about participatory mapping, they are expected to have acquired knowledge that can be immediately applied in their kampong. This activity is also aimed to conduct a survey and to map the potential of natural resources that could be developed as an edu tourism site.
Field data collection activities will be carried out directly by the youth group accompanied by experienced facilitators in participatory mapping to ensure the accuracy of data collected and the correct use of equipment. Field data collection will be carried out for about ten days. To get the latest information of Javan hawk and other wildlife, monitoring will be carried out, involving youth groups and facilitated by experienced researchers in bird conservation. Monitoring will be conducted for twenty days in two periods.
Participatory mapping and monitoring of Javan hawk and other wildlife in Tapos Kampong will be conducted in June and October 2013. To ensure the sustainability of the activity, mapping result will be made in a situation map. This map will be presented to youth groups and Sukaharja Village Government as planning material. Monitoring reports of Javan hawk and other wildlife will be reported to the Authority of HSM NP.
4. Production of promotional material (leafleat, poster, video) of Kampong Tourism
Results of tourism identification and participatory mapping will be processed into a village profiles that can be used for future means of information and promotion of the village. With this complete profile, wider community, local government, watch groups, educational institutions, and specific tourism actors can know the existence of Tapos Kampong along with its potential and can make requests to do edu package tour and enjoy the sights in Tapos Kampong.
Through the profile, kampong promotion and community preparedness in accepting visitors are expected to happen. Visits from the tourist in the future are expected to generate more income for families in Tapos. Profiling activity of tourism kampong will be conducted in November-December 2013.

Objective 4 : Development of community-based edu tourism.
Indicators :
1. At least 1 group of women and youth have one organic garden.
2. At least 3 local guides are trained.
3. Document of tourist interpretation path of Tapos kampong.
4. At least 2 wildlife observation sites (Javan hawk).
5. At least one node of information and communication in Tapos Kampong.
6. At least weekly news about the activities at Tapos Kampong through Berita and Social Media (Twitter and Facebook) for three months.
Activities :
1. Development of organic crops
Trends in urban communities to consume organic food at this time continue to increase. This is one opportunity for people of Tapos Kampong to become one of the leading providers of organic food. Village location which is not so far from the city of Bogor (about 14 Km), Depok and Jakarta became opportunity for the people to gain market of organic crops that are ready for harvest.
Development of organic plant consisting of popohan leaves (Pilea melastomoides), cassava, and pineapple is in accordance with the aspirations of women. This activity is expected to be done by group of farmers, youth and women in Tapos Kampong. Development of organic food sources will provide many benefits to the community in Tapos Kampong; both for their own consumption, adding family income from the sale of organic crops and became one of edu package tours that will be developed in Tapos Kampong. Women empowerment to manage organic garden will be emphasized in this process. Last year the processing of local food into a variety of snacks has been carried out by groups of women in Tapos.
Organic food crops will also be real evidence for children in the early childhood education center in practicing their environmental education. They can see directly the life of the people in their kampong that is friendly to nature and wise in the use of natural resources presence in their kampong.
Development of organic crops will be conducted in September 2013-January 2014. This development will be done together with 1 women group of Tapos kampong. To ensure the sustainability of women's groups, they are expected to produce organic products that can be introduced to the market.
2. Training of local guides for edu tourism
In preparation for the promotion of village tourism, one of the important roles that will be required is the tour guides. Therefore, guide training for village youth representatives training is necessary to prepare themselves as tour guides when there are guests coming to Tapos Kampong. This training will be conducted by experienced facilitators in tour guide methods or interpreter.
The expected output after receiving training, youth representatives will understand the technique to guide visitors and could serve visitors optimally. Knowledge that has been obtained in tour guide training could continue to be applied and developed based on the needs of the tourism actors.
Training of local guides for edu tour will be conducted in November 2013. The participants are around 5 young people of Tapos Kampong. This training will also be facilitated by tourist practitioners. To ensure the sustainability of the activities, the participants will try to practice the training results.
3. Making tourist interpretation path in Tapos Kampong
The high number of tourist potential of Kampong Tapos needs to be integrated into some edu package tours that will be developed. This tourism package will be packaged in interpretation paths based on the interest of the visitor, the age and length of the stays (visit duration). These interpretation paths are necessary to package tour services which can satisfy prospected visitors.
Making tourist interpretation path will be conducted in November 2013. The making will be carried out by the youth group of Tapos village. To ensure the sustainability of this activity, the results of interpretation will be incorporated into promotional packages of edu tourism in Tapos village.
4. Promotion of location of Tapos village through News Agency and Telapak Working Network
It will be conducted when all the facilities and the potential of Kampong Tapos are ready. Telapak through news agency and several members of Telapak who have expertise in producing a documentary video and graphic design will package a piece of comprehensive Tapos Kampong publication. Empowering printing company belongs to Telapak, the Telapak cafes, news agencies and wide Telapak networks. Telapak partners and member of Telapak network are expected are expected to be potential of good market for promotion as well as to invite them to have activity in Tapos Kampong.
Visits to educational tours, tracking, camping sites, meetings or gathering at Kampong Tapos which are conducted by partners or members of Telapak network will become the initial promotion of the existence of Tapos Kampong.
Publication of Tapos Village locations will be conducted during the project. To ensure the sustainability of this activity, all of important information related to the project results will be published in Telapak news networks. Promotion will also be conducted through direct communication to the Authority of HSM NP, Department of Tourism in City and Regency level of Bogor as well as travel and tourist agencies in Bogor.

Objective 5 : Monitoring dan Evaluasi.
Indicators :
1. Minimum of 3 reports of progress activities (quarterly report).
2. Minimum of one complete project report (final report).
3. Minimum of 1 learning project implementation.
4. Minimum of 12 minutes meeting.
Activities :
1. Field trips
Field trips will be conducted every four months by involving working team and Governing Body of Western Java Territory, Telapak Association and GEF SGP team as needed. Team of evaluators will meet with key stakeholders in the village to get information and projects responses. Field visits will also be used to review the location of edu-tourism development and buffer zone ecosystem. Field visits will be conducted in August 2013, December 2013 and April 2014.
2. Evaluation Workshop
Final evaluation of the project will be carried out more widely by including key stakeholders such as Authority of Halimun Salak Mountain National Park, community representatives of Tapos village, Telapak Association, Local Government, GEF SGP team and other relevant stakeholders. This workshop is aimed to describe the progress and achievements of the project and to get input for future development strategies. Workshops will be conducted in April 2014.
3. Internal evaluation
Internal evaluation of the project implementation will be prepared with all working team and the community to draw lessons and to find important things for the development of future programs. Internal evaluation is also used to prepare and discuss the thematic reports of activities. Internal evaluation will be conducted every month during project activities in May 2013-April 2014.

1. Community of Tapos kampong understands and realizes the opportunities of natural resources development they own.
2. Community of Tapos kampong has role in supporting conservation buffer zone of HSM NP.
3. Community of Tapos kampong becomes one of suppliers of organic food crops.
4. Potential for edu tourism and natural resources in Tapos Kampong is promoted and documented to wider community.
5. Community of Tapos kampong is able to do nature conservation in the surrounding area through the concept of Edu Tourism.
