Agriculture and Energy Skills for Climate Change Mitigation in Panda community (Panda Development Area, Karu LGA, Nasarawa state
This project aims at demonstrating sustainable Agricultural practices and raising of tree seedlings to replace cut down ones, use of Solar power for energy, importance of the natural environment through documenting its plant biodiversity to promote awareness, combat climate change while using these skills as means of income.Panda is in a ‘preserved’ Guinea Savanna with agriculture as main occupation of its people. Subsistence farming&Slash and burn agriculture is predominant. It is losing its savanna due to clearing and environmentally unsustainable practices. In addition, No village or town in this area has electricity.Nearly all energy for cooking is from wood or kerosene. This contributes to loss of vegetation.
