Capacity Building of Women Group through Non Timber Forest Product to Promote the Usage of Peat Swamp Resources
Increasing the role of women artisans in product development woven pandanus, and the use of land for rubber plantation and organic vegetable attention to aspects of economic, ecological and socio-cultural (local knowledge) in management resulting in increased revenue and sustainable society.

Objective 1 : Increasing capacity and skills of women artisans in product development, thus resulting in qualified product and in accordance to market demand
Indicators : 1. Increasing ability of weaving group in producing qualified products according to market demand.
2. Increasing capacity of tailors in Pontianak in developing design and to produce products that have market’s interest
3. Increasing group’s productivity, aside their roles as housewives and farmers, that are ready to be marketed in the local market
Activities : 1. Conducting a series of training to increase the capacity of the artisans (group management’s training, production planning training, quality control and marketing training). The activities will be implemented in the beginning of the year. The activities will be involving 5 groups that have been formed in the previous activity. The target is the representation of the three villages in the activities (Kuala Tolak, Tanjung Baik Budi and Sungai Putri Villages)
2. Development of product design / product modification
Promoting and marketing of products through exhibitions, distribution of brochures, on-line market, and consignment in the showroom). The events will be carried out by Tunas Harapan as the executing committee by involving other communities and their products. The development of product design will be reference for the existing design and will adjust to the artisans’ products. The development of product design can be seen from the wickers, patterns and shapes.

Objective 2 : Increasing artisans’ collaboration within group to manage sources of livelihood in sustainable manner in order to increase cash families’ income
Indicators : 1. Identication of natural resources’ potential (NTFP) such as rattan, resam (type of ferns), bamboo etc which can be managed and developed into economically valuable products.
2. Management of organic vegetable demonstration plots and rubber nurseries that have been started by the groups and individuals. Types of vegetables to be planted are cabbage, beans, eggplant-type, chilli and vegetables such as pumpkin, etc and this will develop according to local customs and types of soil. This demonstration plots will be made by three groups representing the three villages (Tanjung Baik Budi, Sungai Putri and Kuala Tolak villages) and the land being used is more on idle lands owned by the community and approved by the group.
Activities : 1. Identifying NTFPs’ potential such as rattan, resam, bamboo etc which can be managed and developed into economically valuable products
2. Management of organic vegetable gardens and rubber nurseries, farming along with managing organic vegetable garden with various types of cabbage, beans, eggplant, chilli and local vegetables such as pumpkin etc and this will develop according to local customs and types of soil. Rubber nursery will be started by cultivation of local rubber and procurement of superior rubber seedlings for area that is going to be treated and managed by the community.

Objective 3 : Strengthening multi-stakeholder cooperation in community-based natural resource management in order to secure and improve the base of livelihoods’ sources. The parties who will be invited to cooperate are village to district government, remaja masjid (Youth’s Islamic Club), PKK (Empowerment Family Welfare), women from pengajian (communal Quran reading) and conservation agencies such as Yayasan Palung, Yayasan Dian Tama and D-ta creations that produce end products.
Indicators : 1. Focused group discussion on issues of forest protection and rights of land management by the people, especially women's groups (District Level)
2. Gender awareness and critical education for women
Activities :
1. Increasing multiparties awareness on management of forest resources based on community and establishing multiparties agreement to protect and manage protected peat swamp forest. The activities that will be carried out are discussions that will involve village to district government and other institutions that have concern on the issue of natural resource management and conservation
2. Discussion in group that picks up topic to support advocacy on the role of women in village/sub village. This discussion will be carried out in quarterly basis, beside the small gatherings that are carried out by groups. Thus, summaries from the small gatherings could be topics for greater quarterly discussion
Effective monitoring and evaluation is done to see the implementation of activities and the potential revision to support the success and sustainability of the communities’ activities in the local level.

Objective 4 Monitoring and Evaluation
Indicators The implementation of monitoring and evaluation which would have Yayasan Dian Tama involvement. With the monitoring to see how far the activities have been implemented and the impact of the activities, for the general public around Matan Hilir Utara District and for Tunas Harapan group or community of Tanjung Baik Budi village in specific. The evaluation will be carried out by monitoring and in the form of discussions and formulation of Action Plan (RTL) as well as revision of the later activities.
Activities Monitoring and evaluation activities. The activities of this monitoring is to see the progress of activities implemented by the group and to see the constraints faced by the group. Besides monitoring, other most important activity which is the solution of the lack of success is evaluation. Evaluation will be done together along with groups so that the result will be collective agreement that must be implemented together as well.

a) Land ownership and management rights will be clarified. Thus, incentives for local stakeholders is to enhance the productivity of their own land in the area
b) The target group will acquire a variety of skills, such as training of charcoal- compost and its application, building NTFP business, managing demplot of rubber seeds and organic vegetable gardens that will improve family welfare.
c) The target group will gain awareness on environmental isue they face and will be equipped to make decision on socio-economic development in their areas.

Direct : Women group of Pandan weaving artisans and their families living in the area of protected peat swamp forest Sentap Kancang, 100 people in number, especially in three villages.
Indirect : 1. communities outside the facilitated areas who have access, need and big influence to the targetted communities’ social, economic and ecological dynamics, 2,144 households approximately and 10,810 people. Men to women proportion is 5,625 to 5,185 people.
