Sustainable use of non timber forest products Nieuw Aurora
The village of Nieuw Aurora already has an organized group of mostly women who produce all kinds of handicrafts made out of natural products, such as with kalebas, wood, palm leaves, etc.
This project will further increase the capacity of the women to increase the product quality, to re-use more of the natural products to help them to increase their income generation.

Gender Focus
Not only women will be encouraged to participate, but also men. Especially the art of wood carving is usually left over to the men. The project aims to involve the men, who have a tough time finding jobs in the region.
Notable Community Participation
The CBO consists of mostly (99%) of women, who have already been trained and organized by another NGO, the Bureau Forum NGO. They have a cooperation in the community, where the handicrafts are sold through one shop, and the cooperation gains revenues from the sales. With these revenues, the SGP project will be supported in cash by the CBO.
