Capacity Building to Address Land Degradation and Desertification in Gangara Community of Giwa LGA, Kaduna State
Capacity Building to Address Land Degradation and Desertification in Gangara Community of Giwa LGA, Kaduna State
The project seeks to address the problem of desertification and land degradation in Gangara community through large scale tree planting to regain degraded land and build capacity of farmers in farmland and simple environmental management skills. This community shares borders with Katsina State which is being ravaged by drought and desertification. This problem is aggravated by wanton felling of trees without any efforts by anyone: government or community to replace them, there has been a consistent decline in the amount of land covered by green grass whenever they appear in their season and there were also complaints about Fulani cattle nomads plundering the grasslands and cutting short their seasonal lifespan. Some of the project activities include advocacy, visits, practical training sessions for 500 community members, especially women and girls, knowledge management meetings, Monitoring and Evaluation.
