The project has provided a comprehensive scientific analysis of the area, its economy and natural resources use, biodiversity and landscape, historical and cultural facilities. It was used to establish the 13,500 ha of Kreminski Forests Natural Park. A group of local experts has developed scientific and functional zoning of the area and created a scheme of preliminary functional zoning. In addition, local scientists developed a system for typical and unique habitants monitoring and provided land-management materials.
Another major accomplishment of the project was involvement of the local communities into the project activities and wide public awareness campaign on biodiversity protection issues. The project has conducted public hearings, 12 environmental lessons involving more than 500 schoolchildren, environmental workshops, meetings with the local authorities and the media to raise awareness on biodiversity protection and ecosystem conservation issues, encourage local administrators to enforce the current laws for the protection of animals and plants and help enact long-term conservation measures. Also, a promotional video, brochures and leaflets were developed and distributed among the local residents.
